Ladies Bicycle Brands to Get You on Your Way
by Nic in Ladies Brands
If you are interested in buying a ladies bicycle, you are in luck as there are dozens of brands to choose from these days, all of which have women specific models. With a little bit of digging around, I came up with a list of almost 30 brands which offer various styles of bicycles for ladies, and there are probably many more which I didn’t come across while searching. So whether you are trying to hunt down that perfect bicycle with basket or a ladies mountain bicycle, or a bike to go road racing on, there will definitely be something ideal waiting out there to be discovered.
Here are some of the most common ones you will find in stores, either in the high street or in online stores such as Amazon.
Giant
Giant has pulled out all the stops where ladies bicycles are concerned, offering over 20 different women specific designs ranging from high performance road bikes to off-roaders; from sports bikes to comfortable lifestyle ladies cruiser bicycles and hybrids. This is a well-recognized brand that provides models for men and juniors as well as female riders, and it should not be difficult to track down a Giant ladies bicycle if you opt for one of these.
Schwinn
Schwinn are another hugely well-respected brand which caters to the whole cycling market of men, women and kids. They have scores of great products, from modern twists on the old vintage ladies bicycles to brightly painted, fun and funky sport cruisers. And of course they offer all the major bike set ups from road bicycles to cruisers, mountain bikes and hybrids. This is another company whose bikes you should have no trouble tracking down – even if it takes a while to decide which of their beautiful models you want to buy! You can even get your hands on Schwinn ladies bicycles through Amazon.
Cannondale
Another big brand with a product range to suit all customers. The Cannondale ladies bicycle range boasts models across the categories of Multisports, Road Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Recreation Bikes. As with the other big brands they go to great lengths to explain the bicycle frame geometries and how they are optimized for a woman’s physique. This is yet another company where you will be able to find their wares in cycle shops or online stores.
Trek
Trek Bikes boast they were the first major bicycle company to offer women’s specific design bikes, and they do have a great range covering all the types you could possibly need. They have bikes for fun and fitness as well as serious road bikes.
Specialized
Specialized make bikes for everybody too, and have some excellent designs for the female riders. They cater more to the sports cycle addicts, making excellent endurance and road racing bikes, but there is still something on offer to the lifestyle cyclist or commuter (eg the Specialized 2010 Vita).
Sweetpea
Sweetpea Bicycles is a for women only bespoke cycle company. They design and build the bicycles with everything about the woman in mind, and the results look great and fit like a glove if the customer recommendations are to be believed. My favorite quote from one commentator is: “Your bikes are sexy, squared.” So there you have it – how can you possibly resist!
Luna
Luna is another company that crafts bicycles for ladies, or as they say: “Custom Crafted By Women For Women”. They are a specialist company which will work with you one-on-one to build a bicycle that will fit you like a glove (similar to Sweetpea) and deliver high performance everytime.
Those are just some of the ladies bicycle brands you might encounter as you search for a great bike, and there really is something for everybody, from budding road racers to the girl who just fancies pedalling along the breezy country roads in the summer. The ones mentioned above are really just a random selection, and their inclusion doesn’t mean I recommend them myself. They simply comprise of a few very big well-known brands that will be very affordable, and a couple of very specialist custom outfits that will strive to give you perfection, and you will pay a lot more for that high quality bespoke product. The choice is always yours, and it pays to try out as many bikes as it takes to get one you really love.
Just to list a few more that might interest you, there is the Huffy ladies bicycle range, which are very inexpensive and for the leisure end of the market; Titus, Mondonico and Torelli which all produce women specific cycles; there are also Orbea, Terry and Bianchi, and a whole load of others. Good luck searching for the elusive perfect bike for you, and then…happy cycling ever after!
